Campus Life at Melbourne Girls Grammar

At Melbourne Girls Grammar, we expect and encourage our girls to immerse themselves in School life beyond the classroom, and in return be rewarded with the joy of participation and personal best achievement.

Boarding House life

The Boarding House is located in the centre of the Merton Hall campus and is a thriving learning precinct. With all year levels residing within one House, we provide a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in which the students can grow in self-esteem and learn to reach their potential in all areas of school life. With a strong student voice, the Boarding House Council organises many activities to supplement regular School commitments. This genuine control and decision making ensures that leadership skills are learnt, negotiation is valued and compromise is essential. We have a team of Boarding House Tutors who play a hands-on supportive role, steering the girls through the ups and downs of adolescence in a residential community. A boarding experience at MGGS allows for opportunities that our students would not have otherwise. Boarders live in the heart of the School and the heart of Melbourne. Boarders have optimal access to learning, staff, resources and facilities.

International students are required to live in our Boarding House facilities if they are not living with a direct relative. Melbourne Girls Grammar welcomes International students into the Boarding House and provides a friendly, supportive environment that encourages the educational development and personal growth of all students. The Boarding House is home to up to 80 boarders from all over Australia and the world, and we treasure this diversity on our campus.

Co-curricular activities

Life at Melbourne Girls Grammar exposes students to a range of curriculum, community and co-curricular opportunities. Students are extended, challenged and enjoy the extensive opportunities available to them throughout their time at Melbourne Girls Grammar. MGGS girls are encouraged to embrace all activities as an opportunity to expand their experiences, further develop existing skills and find new passions. It is our belief that involvement in all aspects of School life increases each student's sense of School belonging, expands friendship groups, and also leads to higher levels of motivation and engagement.

Standout co-curricular opportunities for MGGS girls include Art, Sport, Drama and Music opportunities that showcase the diverse talents, interest and passions that girls can develop during their time at MGGS. Passionate staff work with girls to provide world class opportunities in these pursuits for girls to explore and thrive in.
